Springhill Classic, Barling, AR 10-02-2011
This race was a last minute adventure for me. I was supposed to be working at the US Open Tri in Dallas, but I was unexpectedly given the weekend off. Yay!!!! And what better thing to do on your weekend off but to race? I loaded up with Frank and Lonnie and we headed up to the Springhill Classic just outside of Barling, AR. My race didn’t start until 11:00, so it was a chill drive morning. I...

Toad Suck Tri, Conway, AR 9-10-2011
Toad Suck Tri, Conway, AR 9-10-2011 So, it’s been a while since I’ve posted up. Here’s a short recap, then I’ll get into my race report from Conway, AR. May 30, 2011- Cap Tex Tri- Fun but brutal race for me. June 12, 2011- Xterra Eureka Springs- First girl out of the water (yay!!!!), then I had a brutal bike, and even more brutal run. Realized at this point in my season that something might be up...

Xterra South Eastern Championship- Pelham, AL...
I do love Alabama! I was feeling pretty good heading into this race this year. I drove in on Friday evening. Tim Heard from Birmingham Bicycle Company and his wife Karen welcomed me into their home to stay for the weekend. They were amazing hosts! I headed out to the race course Saturday to check in, and do a little pre-riding. The energy is so great there! The weather was perfect! I was ready...

Xterra South Central Championship- Waco
Well, I feel like it’s one year later, and I’m completely repeating a previous post. On April 2, 2010 I was riding my bike at Erwin Park in McKinney, TX and came around a corner and my front wheel caught on a root. That sent me flying straight into the root with my knee, and my arm scraped across the top of the root. It left me pretty bruised, swollen and bloody. Luckily my bike faired...

Spa City 6 hour and Du it in the Dirt Duathlon -...
03-12-2011 - First races of the season!!! Yes! I was so excited and nervous about this weekend of racing. It was my first attempt at doing back to back events, and also my first duathlon. I knew going into this weekend that it was going to be a tough one, but I had no idea! Lonnie (my Spokes team mate and fellow co-worker) and I headed to the Spa City (aka Hot Springs) early Saturday morning.  It...

Xterra Nationals- Ogden UT & Xterra Worlds- Maui
Well, it appears that my blogging took a backseat to my training. Also seems to have taken a backseat to my off season. So to catch up a little, here is a recap of the past six months. Xterra Nationals was held in beautiful Ogden Utah in September of 2010. The weather along with altitude proved to be a bit much for me. It was in the low 40’s when the race started! The water felt warm...

Emma Long Xterra, Austin, Texas 08/22/2010
Emma Long Park is not for the timid. I raced here last year recovering from Bronchitis and it was not easy then. I heard a week before the race that they decided to reverse the direction of the trail which made it even harder! WHAT??? Oh boy… here we go! We arrived in Austin on Friday evening with little time to get in a full pre-ride. So Steph and I headed out to see what this trail was like...

Camp Eagle Xterra 08/15/2010
This race was important for me to do for several reasons. First, it’s my 35th Birthday. And I love that I spent it doing the thing that I love!!! Second, I was sick during last year’s race, so I had to sit out and watch everyone else race. Bronchitis kicked my butt! It was also a nice break to a part of Texas that is absolutely breathtaking. Camp Eagle is located about an hour and a half east of...

06/13/2010 Xterra Southeast Championship- Pelham,...
I think this might be the most calm that I’ve ever been before an Xterra race… which considering this was a Championship race and I was trying to qualify for Worlds…. was a bit strange. I got up early and ate my breakfast… loaded up the car and we headed to Oak Mountain State Park. I set up my transition area, went to the bathroom 80 times…. (stupid nerves), and sat down and was able to just chill...

05/30/2010 Mellow Johnny’s Classic- Dripping...
I know this race report is a bit late… but better late than never, right? The heat was turned up during this weekend to full blast!!!! I pre-rode the course on a demo bike provided by Orbea. I was one of the first to demo their brand spankin’ new 2011 Orbea Alma 29er. I think I was drooling before I even stepped foot on the pedals! The bike had a 2x10 set up and was way faster than I would have...

Southeastern Xterra Cup Race- Pelham, AL
Pelham Alabama is about a ten hour drive from Dallas, Texas so Thursday night after work, so Steph, Brooks and I packed up the car, and my bike and headed to Pelham for the Southeastern Xterra Cup race. I missed the Waco Southern Xterra race due to a broken toe so I’m here to redeem myself! I pre-rode the course on Friday and it was a BLAST! It was fast with lots of turns in the trees, then...

Injury Report – 05-18-2010
Well, I’m happy to report that my knee is healing nicely! I was back to running, biking, and swimming to my hearts content. I was scheduled to race this past weekend at the Xterra Red River in Oklahoma. Unfortunately we got about 5 inches of rain on Friday and I decided that it was not worth the injury risk to race in the mud the weekend before the Waco Xterra South Central Cup. I bailed. I was up...

Things I love
I love the feel of dirt under my tires. I love feeling the leaves of the trees brush my arms as I fly past them. I love the butterflies I get in my stomach as I come screaming down a hill. I love the burn in my legs as I pedal up that hill. I love sitting down after a ride and realizing that I’m covered from head to toe in dirt and sweat. I love seeing the wildflowers growing in the fields next to...

Knee Injury- 04/30/2010
I know that with training comes injuries. I’ve been very lucky in my training so far that I have only suffered minor injuries. I had decided last week to skip out on the Ruston Xterra. I just wasn’t “feeling” it. Since I have 11 Xterras on the agenda for this year, I figured that it would not hurt to skip one. I have been racing almost every weekend for the last two months and my body was...

Cat Claw Classic- Solavaca, TX 04-25-2010
What a perfect weekend to race! I am going to start this off with a huge THANK YOU to Mack out at Solavaca for letting us crazy mountain bikers come play on his land. These trails are awesome!  We pulled into Glen Rose around noon on Saturday searching for a bike shop to mount up my new tubeless tire that I received the night before. My new Geax Gato was hopefully going to help me tame the Culo...

Wednesday Night Crit- Fort Worth 04/21/2010
I am not exactly sure how this mountain biker got talked into driving over to Fort Worth for the TBI Wednesday Night Crit, but someone must have slipped something into my water bottle without me knowing! To give you a little history, I’ve done two Hotter than Hells (yes.. the 100 mile), one Peach Pedal (100k) and a little Tour of Dallas (30mi). I do some training on the road but it’s usually alone...

Xterra Muleshoe 04/18/2010
What a GREAT weekend! I started off the weekend with a little pre-ride and run of the Xterra course for Sunday’s race. We had gotten a lot of rain and were expecting a lot more over the course of the weekend. This course was mostly sand and small pebbles, so it drained VERY well. The rocks were a little slick on the ride, but mostly everything was pretty tacky and fast. Mike Carter led us out on...

04/15/2010- Austin Bound
I’m headed to Austin today for my first Xterra of the season out at Muleshoe which is just outside of Austin, TX. Yesterday was my first open water swim of the season and I think it went fairly well. I seem to be doing well at staying straight and sighting the buoys which is crutial. I am feeling a bit more comfortable in my wetsuit. The water was in the mid 60’s yesterday which is about...

Bar H Bash, St. Jo, Texas 04/11/2010
This past weekend was my third time to race out at Bar H and I’ll have to say that this time was the hardest course, but my best finish yet. I pre-rode the course the weekend before and I was really worried about all the climbing. Being such a flatlander from Oklahoma and currently residing in the mostly flat part of Texas…. having that much climbing in a race is a little scary. On my pre-ride I...

Pace Bend TMBRA Race- Austin, Texas 03/28/2010
First thing just let me say that this part of Texas is absolutely breathtaking. The hills, the views, the weather, the water….. It’s got a little bit of everything! We were lucky enough to stay with a friend right off Lake Travis in a cute lake house. We arrived on Friday night just in time for sunset. The evening brought some fun times meeting some new folks. Saturday we all got up and headed...

Storm Hill Country Mountain Bike Challenge in Flat...
This was the second race of the season in the Spring TMBRA Mountain biking series so my friend Charity and I packed up her truck and headed down to the beautiful hill country of Texas for some mountain bike racing. From Dallas, it’s about a five and a half hour drive to Comfort. The weekend festivities were to kick off on Saturday morning with a Cat 1 Short track race followed by a time trial for...

DORBA Frozen Endurance Race- Big Cedar 3-06-2010
03-06-2010: Today is the first time I have attempted an endurance race solo. I have done several team relay events, 12 and 24 hour, but not ever a solo event. We started out the day with 55 degree temps and no clouds! Considering we have had about 3 straight months of rain, snow, cold, and just plain miserable bike riding… and not to mention no trails open in the metroplex for nearly a month. It...
